Witness Helps Chase Down Car Burglar In Mercer County: Police

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A witness helped chase down a man who had burglarized a neighbor's vehicle early Sunday morning, Hamilton police said.

Calvin Stevens, 38, of Trenton was seen on surveillance footage entering a vehicle on East Franklin Street on Sunday, Jan. 23 at approximately 5:08 a.m., police said. Stevens fled when the witness confronted him. The witness chased after Stevens and caught him at the intersection of East Franklin Street and Fairmount Avenue, according to police.

Steven fled again but left a brown bag containing his cell phone, baby clothing taken from the vehicle, and a left-handed black/red Milwaukee glove, police said.

Officers stopped Stevens near Quinton Avenue in Trenton, where he was taken into custody. Stevens has been charged with burglary and theft.
