RAMSEY, NJ — Malfunctioning NJ Transit railroad crossing gates disrupted traffic in Ramsey on Tuesday evening, prompting road closures and additional safety precautions.
According to borough Rave alerts, gates became stuck in the down position at East Main Street and Gertzen Plaza.
The borough warned drivers to avoid both crossings at 5:11 p.m.
By 6:08 p.m., roads had reopened and the gates were upright, although NJ Transit crews remained at both crossings working on repairs.
In a 7:15 p.m. update, Ramsey officials said trains entering the borough had been directed to stop before proceeding, with conductors required to flag trains through the affected crossings.
Patch did not receive any additional Rave alerts about the malfunction following the borough's 7:15 p.m. update.
