Authorities Arrest Man in Possession of $100K Worth of Cocaine in Bergen County

Alejandra Veras was allegedly in possession of two kilograms of suspected cocaine.

A Hudson County man was arrested in Edgewater Wednesday after police found cocaine in his vehicle.

The arrest came after the “Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force, Edgewater Police Department and Bergen County Sheriff’s Department conducted a motor vehicle stop of a livery cab on River Road in Edgewater ... after observing suspicious behavior by the lone passenger,” Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

Authorities searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag containing two kilograms of suspected cocaine in the trunk, Molinelli said. The estimated street value of the cocaine is approximately $100,000.

The passenger, Alejandro Veras, 28, of West New York, was arrested without incident after an authorities confirmed the drug paraphernalia was his. He was charged with one count of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, a first degree crime.

Bail was set at $200,000 with no ten percent cash option.

Veras was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
