Bergen County Woman Arrested for Fatally Striking Pedestrian, DWI
The Paramus woman was driving on Route 46 West just before 11 p.m. Tuesday when she fatally struck a North Plainfield man.

A Bergen County woman was arrested Tuesday after fatally striking a man who was crossing the highway while she was driving while intoxicated.
Marie Briamonte, 58, of Paramus, was driving her 2003 Toyota Camry just before 11 p.m. Tuesday when she allegedly struck a 48-year-old North Plainfield man on Route 46 West in Elmwood Park, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.
The victim, Maninder Singh, had been crossing the highway at the time of the accident and was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Briamonte was arrested at the scene “after officers ... made observations that led them to believe ... Briamonte was driving while intoxicated,” Molinelli said.
Briamonte was charged with one count death by auto while driving within 1000 feet of the Gantner Avenue School and was also issued summonses for motor vehicle violations including driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

Briamonte was released on bail, which was set at $150,000 with a 10 percent cash option. Her first appearance in Elmwood Park Municipal Court has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Dec. 16.
A blood sample was taken from Briamonte and will be submitted for toxicological examination.
