Don Bosco Mourns Former Football Player Found Dead

Kurt Schmitz is being remembered as a "dedicated, tough kid that worked hard for everything."

Don Bosco is mourning the loss of one of their former football players, Kurt Schmitz, who died Sunday in an off-campus apartment in Richmond, Va.

Don Bosco staff remembers Schmitz as a dedicated player who pushed himself to earn a college scholarship, NorthJersey.com reported.

“He was a totally dedicated, tough kid that worked hard for everything,” Don Bosco coach Greg Toal told NorthJersey.com. “...He wasn’t the most talented guy, but he just worked so damn hard.”

Schmitz had played football for the University of Richmond before being “medically disqualified” following a series of concussions, according to the University newspaper. The 22-year-old’s cause of death is under investigation, though no foul play is suspected, NorthJersey.com reported.
