FD: Stove Malfunction Causes 'Serious Smoke Condition' In Ramsey Apartment
No injuries were reported as a result of the malfunction, officials said
Ramsey emergency responders removed a stove with a faulty self-cleaning system from a vacant apartment on Christopher Street after neighbors reported seeing “a lot of smoke,” coming from the apartment window Tuesday afternoon, Fire Captain John Krehel confirmed.
“It was a vacant apartment and there was a cleaning crew in there previously that apparently put the oven on self-cleaner,” Krehel said. “[The self cleaner] must have malfunctioned, though we’re not sure exactly why at this point.”
The oven caused “serious smoke conditions, but that’s all,” he said.

According to Krehel, the apartment – part of the Washington Drive Homeowners Association complex – was being prepped for a new tenant planning on “moving in shortly.”
There was no one in the apartment at the time of the oven malfunction, and no neighbor injuries were reported as a result of the incident, he said.
