The Intelligence of the Human Heart

Did you ever wonder if the heart has a memory or if your heart really impact your emotions?

I read about a case where someone received a heart transplant from a carpenter. Soon after the procedure, the recipient felt the urge to take up woodworking. This occurred without knowing the profession of the donor. With this in mind, if you needed a heart transplant, would you want to get a heart from a convicted mass murderer?

You have probably have heard these said at one time or another:

1. “He broke her heart.”

2. “She has a lot of heart.”

3. “His heart aches to go home.”

4. “They had a heart to heart conversation”.

The Institute of HeartMath is an internationally recognized nonprofit research and education organization that has done some amazing work shedding light on some significant findings regarding the science of the heart.

They have investigated heart and brain interactions. Researchers at the institute have examined how the heart and brain communicate with each other and how that affects our consciousness and the way in which we perceive our world.

Their research has shown that when a person is feeling really positive emotions, such as gratitude, love, or appreciation, the heart beats out a very different message. They’ve been able to determine this by the fact that the heart produces the largest electromagnetic field produced in the body and they can gather data from it.

“Emotional information is actually coded and modulated into these fields. By learning to shift our emotions, we are changing the information coded into the magnetic fields that are radiated by the heart, and that can impact those around us. We are fundamentally and deeply connected with each other and the planet itself.” – Rolin McCratey , Ph.D, Director of Research at the Institute.

This work demonstrates how the heart plays an important role far beyond what is commonly known.

Here are some of their findings:

1. Your heart emits electromagnetic fields that change according to your emotions.

2. The human heart has a magnetic field that can be measured up to several feet away from the human body.

3. Positive emotions create physiological benefits in your body.
4. You can boost your immune system by conjuring up positive emotions.

5. Negative emotions can create a nervous system chaos and that positive emotions do the complete opposite.

6. The heart has a system of neurons that have both short term and long term memory.

7. Heart impulses that are sent to the brain can affect our emotional experiences.

8. During fetal development, the heart forms and starts beating before the brain is developed.

9. A mother’s brainwaves can synchronize to her baby’s heartbeats.

10. Did you know that the heart sends more information to the brain than the brain sends to the heart.

The Institute of HeartMath emphasizes the importance of having a positive attitude. It is critical for many of us to change the way we feel inside. Not much can be accomplished from a place of sadness and negativity.
