Mayor: Roadwork Detours ‘Something We’ll Have to Live With’

Ramsey residents will need to live with a road construction project that has prompted detours on three busy borough roadways – South Central Avenue and East and West Oak Street – for another month or more, Mayor Chris Botta said during an update about the project at a council meeting Wednesday night.

“It’s something we’ll have to live with for the next 30 to 45 days,” he said. “But, the end result will be very much worth it.”

According to Botta, the roads will only be completely closed sporadically, depending on the specific work being done. Borough officials and the police department are monitoring the construction process in an effort to minimize the disruption to the town, he said.

By the end of the construction project, residents should expect to see:

• East and West Oak Street – New curbs, sidewalks, curb ramps, milling and paving.
• S. Central Avenue – New storm drains, drainage pipe, curbs, sidewalks, bridge repairs, milling and paving. The sidewalk will stretch all the way down to Main Street.

“This is a major project with major grant reimbursement,” he said.

The project, which includes roadway resurfacing, drainage, and curb and sidewalk improvements, will be mostly funded by grants and money from the county.
