Most Districts Vote In Line With Ramsey

Most school budget voters throughout the state mimicked Ramsey residents’ decision this week to pass the district’s proposed school budget in their local elections, according to a release from the New Jersey School Board Association.

Ramsey is one of only 41 districts across the state that held a school board election, and one of only 39 to have a school budget vote Tuesday.

Of those 39, 36 – or 92% - voted to pass the budget, according to the NJSBA.

All of the districts in Bergen County that held a budget vote - Cliffside Park, East Rutherford, Emerson, Englewood, Fairview, Garfield, Hackensack, Harrington Park, Midland Park, Norwood, Oakland, Palisades Park, Ridgewood, Wood-Ridge – passed the budget.

The only three districts statewide that didn’t, according to the NJSBA, were Belleville in Essex County, North Bergen in Hudson County, and Edison in Middlesex County.

On Tuesday, Ramsey residents voted by an overwhelming majority to approved the school budget, which calls for a tax increase of only 0.2% over last year. Last year, districts were given the option of switching school board elections to November, thereby eliminating the public budget vote. All but these 41 districts changed the election.

All of the election results are based on initial vote counts, which will not be official tallies until after they are certified by county officials.
