Woman, Child Not Injured In Car-Train Accident At Ramsey Station

The surrounding roadway is closed as authorities are repairing the control arm at the train station

A woman and her young child were not injured when an NJ Transit train hit their SUV at the Ramsey Train Station Saturday afternoon, NJT spokesperson John Durso, Jr. said.

The SUV was stuck on the tracks “when the gate started closing,” Durso said. “The female and the young child safely evacuated the vehicle,” before the train came through, he said.

Though the car suffered significant damage, Durso said the train only had “very minor damage,” and was still operable.

None of the 120 passengers aboard Train #73 were injured as a result of the crash, he said.

The passengers, whose train departed from Secaucus at about 11:31 a.m. Saturday, were transported to a different train to finish their trip to Port Jervis, NY, Durso said.

The train was taken out of service for “investigation,” he said.

The road remained closed around the station while authorities were repairing the control arm that was broken in the accident,  Sgt. Richard Falotico said. The road will not be reopened until the arm is repaired, he said.

Train traffic was stopped for about 20 minutes after 12 p.m., but subsequently resumed with delays. As of 4:25 p.m., the NJ Transit website was no longer reporting related delays on the Main Bergen line.
