OSHA Fines Tree Service Company $25K For Man's Ramsey Death

The 30-year-old man was working at the Peach Hill Township Community when he was hit by a part of a tree that fell, police said.

RAMSEY, NJ — A tree service company has been fined more than $25,000 following the death of a tree service worker who was killed in Ramsey in October after a large part of the tree he was working on struck him.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined Northern Tree Service Ii Inc. of Washingtonville, New York following the father of two's death.

The man was working with at the Peach Hill Townhouse Community, when the incident occurred at about 3 p.m. Oct. 13, authorities said.

The Daily Voice identified the man as Oscar Salaza, citing "authorities."

The Port A Wrap, a limb lowering device, did not have sufficient rope wraps to properly control the descending limb which struck and fatally injured a worker, the report stated.

Ramsey police officers and members of the Ramsey Ambulance Corps administered first aid to the man, who suffered upper body and head injuries, said Chief Bryan Gurney.

The man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York where he was pronounced dead at about 3:35 p.m., Gurney said.
