Ramsey Main Street Train Crossing Closed

Safety improvements are being installed.

RAMSEY, NJ — Main Street at the Erie Train Station Plaza is closed so NJ Transit can install safety upgrades at the train crossing.

The crossing and part of Main Street are expected to be closed until Aug. 10. Detours are in place.

The state Department of Transportation, in conjunction with NJ Transit Rail Operations, are making the following improvements after people died at or near the crossing:

  • A new concrete crossing and extend nearby sidewalks to the crossing from the street
  • New signs
  • Flashing LED lights
  • A pedestrian gate with a skirt that spans the sidewalk

The Main Street station and commuter parking lots are open. Trains are operating on normal schedules.

Parking is prohibited on Church Street from Main Street to Gertzen Plaza.
