Ramsey Schools' Summer Camps Readying for 2013 Season
Summer Sensations and Summer Vibrations plan to bring new enrichment classes and teachers to the 2013 program, organizers say
Though the weather would make you think otherwise, the coordinators of Ramsey’s summer enrichment programs – Summer Sensations and Summer Vibrations – are already planning for their July and August sessions for 2013.
According to Juana Jacobsen, the manager of the Ramsey Adult School Youth & Children's Programs, parents and kids in Ramsey can look forward to some new programming and tweaks to returning favorites during the upcoming season.
Summer Sensations, a camp for kids entering Kindergarten through 5th grade, is hosting its 15th season this summer. The camp will run for three weeks, from July 8 to the 26, and students can choose to attend for one, two or all three weeks. This year, the camp will run 18 different seminars at camp, ranging from the strictly academic, like a Jump Start to First Grade program and Reading Workshops, to unique learning opportunities, like Glee Nation, Sculptor’s Studio and the Young Actor’s Studio.

“The workshops give teachers the opportunity to explore new subjects and topics they don’t necessarily get to cover during the school year,” Jacobsen said. “So, the teachers and the students have a lot of fun.”
Last year, 295 Ramsey students attended the camp. With over 200 kids attending every summer, thousands of Ramsey kids have gone through the program, organizers say.

Over the same three-week period, the RAS will be operating the Summer Vibrations camp for older students, 5th through 8th graders. The music camp, about to put on its 7th season, is made up of music lessons, electives and performance-based Master Forums.
Music teachers and professional performing musicians teach classes. This year, students can look forward to one class taught by one of the musicians from the all-female rock band Antigone Rising, and another taught by “a rock star,” Jacobsen said. “We can’t say who quite yet.”
Parents should receive brochures for Summer Sensations in students’ backpacks and Summer Vibrations in the mail in early March. Registration starts March 18.
