Ramsey Student Named National Merit Scholar

Charles M. Bagin, a student at Don Bosco Prep, hopes to study engineering in college.

RAMSEY, NJ — A Don Bosco Preparatory student was named a national merit scholar recently.

Charles M. Bagin is from Glen Ridge and hopes to be an engineer. He received a scholarship from Aon Corp., an international insurance and financial services company.

Corporate scholarships under the National Merit Scholarship Program were awarded to students who advanced to the finalist level of the National Merit Scholarship competition and met criteria provided by the 200 corporations. Most of the awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study.

More than 1.6 million high school juniors entered the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program when they took the 2015 Preliminary SAT. About 16,000 semifinalists were chosen for consideration for a scholarship based on their outstanding academic records, completion of an essay and other criteria.
