Ramsey Team Advances on TV Quiz Bowl Show

Team from Ramsey High School will take on Frisch in the third round of MSG Varsity's 'The Challenge'

A TV quiz bowl team from Ramsey High School is squashing their competition. According to a release from MSG Varsity this week, the RHS team on “The Challenge” won its second round match and is now headed to the third round of the televised competition.

In December, the team competed in the show’s first round of play, and beat out Hawthorne High School. In March, the team from Ramsey High School beat Eastern Christian High School in the second round.

According to the release, Ramsey’s team is set to take on the Frisch School in a match-up that will air on MSG Varsity at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3.

Ramsey is one of 12 high schools from Jersey that will be competing in the third round of regional play. All regional qualifiers are competing for the chance to make it to the Tri-State Championship Playoffs.

“The action is really heating up as we progress to the final rounds of the Regional Championships,” The Challenge host Jared Cotter said in the release. “You can see the intensity of the player’s faces and excitement of the fans building as we move on in the Regional Championship Rounds.”

The team – made up of students Alex Zammitti, Derek Nelson, Kate Diamond, Kevin Sroczynski and alternate Spencer Lambert – filmed the Round Three episode earlier this year, but for now the results are under wraps.

The show’s current elimination rounds will continue until Regional Champions are crowned. Each champ picks up $2,500 for the team’s school. The show’s ultimate winner takes home $10K in prizes and $500 for each participant.

When the Ramsey students started competing on the show late last year, they told Patch they were excited for the opportunities to test their trivia knowledge, and be on TV.

According to a release from the game show, 192 schools competed this season.
