Water - The Most Essential Nutrient

Most people don't even consider water a nutrient, but it is a nutrient and is also the most essential.

In the TEDx Talk that you can see in the link below, Gerald Pollack, Ph.D., talks about the importance of water for biological function and optimal health, in ways that you maybe have never considered.

Most people realize that our bodies are composed mostly of water. Water is needed for a multitude of physiological processes and biochemical reactions in the human body.

Once one to two percent of your total water is depleted, you become thirsty. If you are in good health, using thirst as a guide to how much water you need to drink is a clear way to make sure that you are getting enough water. The problem is that with sick people and also with many elderly individuals, this feedback loop is broken and they can become chronically dehydrated.

Water, Cells and Life:

Dr. Pollack explains the role of water in the functioning of cells, and the importance of living, structured water, which he refers to as EZ water. EZ standing for "exclusion zone", which has a negative charge. You may have heard about alkaline water or ionized water before,

Typical tap water is H2O, but EZ water is H3O2. It also is thicker, with a higher viscosity than H2O and is also more alkaline. EZ water has a density that is about 10% percent higher than H2O..

I personally think that it makes much more sense to drink alkaline water between meals and not with meals. We need an acidity of a pH of 2, in order to have the enzyme in our stomachs called pepsin, to do its job, which is to digest protein. Animal protein is by in large more difficult to digest as compared to plant protein. Alkaline water will neutralize the hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Your body will then have to work harder to digest that animal protein, or will not be able to digest it as efficiently.

Light & Water Activation:

Infrared rays from sunlight actually penetrate your skin and structure the water in your cells. In this way, sun exposure plays an important role in your body's energy production. As noted by Pollack, cells actually act as "light-driven batteries." As light hits the water in the cell, it undergoes the first step of photosynthesis, which is water splitting into positively and negatively charged ions.

This is one of the reasons why the tourmaline infused products from FIR Industries. Inc., work so well on so many different patients of mine. The nano-sized tourmaline particles absorb body heat and transforms that heat energy into far infrared light that is transmitted back into the body. This far infrared light, not only helps to structure water molecules, but to also help alleviate mitochondrial dysfunction, which is theorized by a number of prominent researchers as being one of the root causes of many chronic diseases that plague modern man.

How Much Water Should You Drink?

You must have heard to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Nobody seems to know exactly where this "conventional wisdom" came from. There is no real science to back up this recommendation.

Water requirements are very individual and are based upon; your age, height, body weight, body composition, body metabolism, your activity level, how much and what you have eaten, the temperature and relative humidity of your environment and so on.

The Best Strategies May Be:

Drink Water When You Feel Thirsty - Once your body has lost between 1- 2 % of your body's total water content, your thirst reflex kicks in, making you feel thirsty. With sick individuals, children and the elderly, this thirst reflex may be compromised.

A 2% reduction in dehydration can result in a 10% drop off in athletic performance.

Recent research has also indicated that driving while dehydrated reduces your concentration and reaction time to the same degree as being legally drunk or sleep deprived.

Observe The Color of Your Urine. You should be drinking enough water to turn your urine a light-yellow color. Dark-colored urine is a sign that your kidneys are retaining fluids in order to maintain your bodily functions, which includes detoxification. This dark urine appears different from urine that is bright yellow, from taking B vitamins.

Frequency of Urination:

A healthy person urinates on average about seven or eight times a day. If your urine is scant or if you haven't urinated in several hours, you may need more water.

Naturally structured, EZ-rich water also can come from natural gravity-fed springs. www.FindaSpring.com is an excellent resource if you want to find one in your local area.

You can also increase EZ water intake by drinking fresh green juice every day.
