RANDOLPH, NJ - Randolph High School Culinary Arts students got a crash course in digital media this week, when Olivia DeMattio — the creator behind the Instagram account That Food Chick — visited to share how she turned a passion for food into an online brand.
DeMattio walked students through how she built her platform from scratch, starting with nothing more than an iPhone and a $15 ring light. "Every student already has the tools to start creating right in their pocket," she told students, encouraging them to explore emerging career paths in food media and content creation.
Students didn't just listen — they got to work. Using their own phones, the culinary and media students created cookie-themed reels, putting into practice the fundamentals of filming, editing, music selection, storytelling and voiceovers. By the end of the session, each group had produced a finished video.
