Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) were opened today in Morris and Essex counties to help residents impacted by the remnants of Hurricane Ida, while the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) also continued to schedule visits to individual communities to augment its outreach efforts.

The Morris County DRC is located at the Morris Plains Community Center, 51 Jim Fear Dr., Morris Plains, N.J. and it is open 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday. It is closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Essex County DRC is located at the Kmart, where the county also operates a vaccination center, at 235 Avenue #9413 West Orange, N.J. It is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday;  8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and closed Sundays.

The federal representatives will be available to explain disaster assistance programs, answer questions about written correspondence and provide literature about repairs and rebuilding to make homes more disaster resistant. FEMA also is scheduling community visits to many of the heavily impacted towns. Below is a list of towns, dates and locations in Morris County:

FEMA has declared that individuals in Bergen, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Union, and Warren counties are eligible to apply for disaster assistance.  People may ask questions or seek further information in person at the DRCs, in addition to online or by phone.

Hurricane Ida survivors who already have registered with FEMA and applied for disaster assistance may have or will receive a letter explaining the current status of their application. Learn more.

If you have homeowners or renters insurance, you should file a claim as soon as possible. By law, FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If you are uninsured or underinsured, you may be eligible for federal assistance.

The fastest and easiest way to apply is by visiting disasterassistance.gov/.

If it is not possible to apply online, call 800-621-3362 (TTY: 800-462-7585). The toll-free telephone lines operate are currently operating 24 hours per day, seven days a week. If you use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA the number for that service.

Disaster assistance may include financial help for temporary lodging and home repairs along with other programs to assist families recover from the effects of the event.
