Randolph Library Concert Celebrates Women In Music

RANDOLPH, NJ — Music associated with some of the 20th century’s best-known women songwriters and singers will fill the Randolph Township Free Public Library this weekend.

Vocalist Ellen LaFurn will perform from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 13, at the library, 28 Calais Road, according to the library’s official event listing.

The program will highlight music associated with songwriters Marilyn Bergman, Carolyn Leigh, Betty Comden, Carole King, Lil Hardin Armstrong and Dorothy Fields. It will also feature selections connected to singers including Billie Holiday, Barbra Streisand, Doris Day, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Jo Stafford.

LaFurn will be joined by Bob McHugh on piano and Ron Naspo on bass, giving listeners a chance to hear music connected to several generations of prominent women performers and writers.

The concert is open to people of all ages, and no registration is required. The library encourages residents to “come enjoy the music.”

For local listeners, the hourlong concert offers an accessible way to explore the work of women who helped shape popular music while hearing their songs performed live close to home.
