Though it's only Spring, trends in both fashion and home décor have us looking forward to sunny skies. With Memorial Day Weekend just a few days away, the "unofficial start to Summer" is within a breath's reach. And though summer doesn't officially begin until the solstice on June 21, what better time than now to allow the sea to reach out and take us on a decorating dive into the deep?
And it isn't just the home that welcomes a visit from Atlantis this year. Our wardrobe choices can be spruced up with a visit from the deep as well. It doesn't matter if you are trying to get through one more season with that same old jacket or if you are looking to interpret a coastal-inspired theme into an existing color scheme. You can stick with the watery blues that have been popular for quite a while now, especially on walls. Or you can go bolder, brighter, and stick with tried and true.... red, white & blue. If you have neutral colors in your home, you are also in luck. It's a great palette to pop nautical inspired accessories off of! The second picture illustrates this perfectly. We have these beautiful seashell loveseats in a neutral cream. (Also a great deal- They are available at $750 for THE PAIR.) The addition of the blues inspires an "under the sea" feeling.
If you are looking to make a more subtle statement, pull out some of those coral necklaces from your last vacation and drape them out for all to see. Sometimes a marine inspired theme can be pulled together in the form of vintage vacation post cards, costume jewels, and shells collected over years of travelling. You can also find such pieces in our shops, if you are set on collecting a particular color or scheme. Not looking to transform your home into a journey to Atlantis seascape? Try wearing the coral necklace with a crisp white shirt and jeans. Try a new pair of vintage earrings in the shape of a fish or an octopus. Maybe a stone encrusted sea horse pin would add some much needed panache to that same old Spring jacket, without breaking the bank.
