Kids helping kids. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.

Kids helping kids.
When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.
That’s what Alexandra “Alex” Scott did, and that is the lesson learned by students at Saint James Extended Day Program.

The children hosted a fundraiser on Tuesday, May 7 to raise money for childhood cancer research. The EDP children asked each student at Saint James School to contribute a $2.00 donation to come to school without their usual school uniform and dress in casual clothing. The entire after-school program of 47 students made posters announcing their charity in addition to visiting classrooms explaining their favorite charity to their classmates. Each student also created their own bright yellow t-shirt hand painted with a red heart. The dress-down day raised approximately $700.00, which will be donated to “Alex’s” foundation.
Children across the country have set up similar lemonade sales in honor of Scott, who died of cancer in 2004 at age 8. Her foundation, Alex's Lemonade Stand, has raised $60 million for cancer research over the past nine years.

All of the 47 Extended Day Program students wore bright yellow shirts and served their fellow classmates with a cup of lemonade at lunch. Mrs. Kathleen Seslar, moderator of the Saint James after-school program said, “This is a shining example of one of the pillars that Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is based upon – that you are never too young to make a difference.”
