Stress, Tension, and Back Pain: The Connection
Stress and Tension can cause Back Pain. Learn more about why this happens, and what you can do to have a pain-free holiday.
Take a minute right now and think about how you're holding your shoulders. Are you tense? Does your neck hurt or are you experiencing frequent headaches?
Stress and tension can also cause back pain. Here's what happens: As you tense up, circulation in the muscles is reduced. As the muscles are deprived of necessary oxygen and nutrients, they start sending pain signals to the brain to let you know that something is wrong. As time goes on, the muscles begin to weaken, leading to even more pain. For example, weak core muscles are a common cause of lower back pain.
It's important to find healthy ways to relax. Massage is a great way to do this, but too often we don't make the necessary time for ourselves.
