RED BANK, NJ — The Broadwalk dining and pedestrian plaza reopened on schedule Friday night, RiverCenter officials confirmed.

"The road is paved, the lights are strung and we’re here to confirm - Broadwalk is back!" said the RiverCenter Facebook post.

Broad Street "transforms into a festive pedestrian plaza filled with outdoor dining and shopping," the post continued.

"Our businesses have been working tirelessly to prepare and we are so ready for you to enjoy a fun summer night in our beautiful downtown. This weekend is just the start with so much more to come. Stop by to say hello and show support for your favorite Red Bank retailer or restaurant," the post said.

RiverCenter had already been working to prepare the return of Broadwalk, said Executive Director Bob Zuckerman. RiverCenter is a nonprofit organization that develops business and tourism in the borough.

"We've reached out to all the restaurants in the footprint, and they are ready to roll out tables and chairs," he said in a previous Patch article.

He said there are new programs being considered, and games for young people to enjoy during the day. And RiverCenter is working with the town Recreation Department to develop other programming.

"Red Bank has to compete with the beach towns in the summer," Zuckerman said. "It is vital to have this back."
