Event Details
During WWII, Nazi Germany was attempting to enrich heavy water for the purpose of constructing an Atomic Bomb. The Gunnerside mission was a secret operation meant to destroy the Heavy Water facility in Vemork, Norway. Following a failed mission in 1942, a group of Norwegian Commanders successfully parachuted into Norway to pull off this mission in 1943. The presentation will explore why this successful mission was so necessary and how dangerous and life-threatening conditions were. Sir Winston Churchill called "Operation Gunnerside" the most successful act of sabotage in WWII.
