The History of Zeppelins: From a Weapon of War to an Aeronautic Marvel In

Event Details
From a dream of aerial dominance to a fireball over New Jersey, this program traces the full arc of Zeppelin airship history. Beginning with Ferdinand von Zeppelin's initial concept, it follows these magnificent craft through World War I, a series of record-breaking commercial flights, and the catastrophic finale of the Hindenburg crash at Lakehurst. Along the way, it explores the advancement of airship technology relative to the aircraft of the era and the remarkable golden age that preceded the program's dramatic end.
Dominic Etzold grew up in a former resort town on the New Jersey coast, where a lifelong fascination with history and the sea took root. He graduated from Drexel University with a degree in History and Politics before entering the workforce, a decision he has cheerfully regretted ever since. In 2020 he returned to his true calling, completing his first book, "Reaping the Whirlwind: The U-Boat War off North America During WWI.” Look for an upcoming book on airships forthcoming from the same publisher and a third already in research.
