Car Breaks Down, Then Gets Stolen In Manalapan: Police

Police said a Hightstown resident reported to them that his car was disabled near Iron Ore Road, then was taken.

MANALAPAN, NJ — A man whose car became disabled near Iron Ore Road told police the car was then stolen on March 14.

On March 15, a Hightstown resident, 36, told police the car, worth $24,000, was stolen from the area of Iron Ore Road and Daum Road after it broke down.

Patrolman Anthony Cascella handled the report, which is pending further investigation.

Deputy Chief Leonard Maltese reported other incidents of crime in the township, primarily involving fraud:

  • A Freehold Township resident, 48, on March 21 told police that an unauthorized purchase was made online with an American Express business account. No monetary loss was reported.
  • A Manalapan resident, 54, told police on March 18 that someone made approximately $150 in fraudulent transactions on the victim’s debit card.
  • A Manalapan resident, 43, told police on March 16 that someone fraudulently transferred $600 from an online account.
  • A Manalapan resident, 64, told police on March 15 that someone made approximately $1,200 in fraudulent transactions using the victim’s debit card.
  • Also on March 15, a township resident, 68, told police someone attempted to purchase furniture using the victim’s account. There was no monetary loss reported.

All incidents are pending further investigation.
