In an Appellate Division case decided today, and a rare family law case approved for publication, the Court in Harte v. Hand set forth how to properly calculate child support for multiple families. The decision can be read here: https://higherlogicdownload.s3.amazonaws.com/NJSBA/12-18-13%20Harte%20v.%20Hand.pdf?AWSAccessKeyId=A...
While this decision may not impact many readers, as it only impacts parents where one or both of the parents has children from another relationship, it is still an interesting analysis of the law relating to child support in New Jersey.
For parents who are paying or receiving child support and there are multiple families and children involved, it would be wise to review your current child support guidelines to confirm that they are appropriately calculated based upon the ruling of this case.
