Red Bank FrameWorks presents in the gallery "Pursuing The Past: Vintage Images from the Dorn's Archive", a photographic exhibition spanning over 70 years that show the people, places, and events that make up our vibrant local history.
Views of everyday life, from Red Bank, Asbury Park, Long Branch, and nearby towns, give the sensation of that which is forgotten, yet still familiar. A feeling that brings us closer to a shared experience of living in the same place, but at a different point in time. With over 80 images, "Pursuing The Past" captures events such as Army tanks rolling down Main Street in Freehold, a demonstration against a burlesque theater in Long Branch, and two teenage Marlon Brando wannabes strolling the Asbury boardwalk in 1956.
Started by Daniel Dorn, Sr., a local photographer, film maker, and owner of Dorn's Photo Shop in Red Bank for over 65 years, this collection now contains approximately 5,000 images, including work by Andrew Coleman and Charles Foxwell, esteemed local photographers in the early 20th century. The archive is now maintained by Daniel's daughter Kathy Dorn Severini, and her husband, George. Looking deep into this historic trove of negatives and glass plates, many of these images are being presented for the first time to the viewing public.
