“SQ x 2SQ: Images
within Squares and Double-Squares” is a unique photography exhibit inspired
by the elegant proportion of perfect symmetry, the square, and the beautiful
Japanese Tatami proportion of 1:2 or double-square, used in either horizontal
or vertical orientation. For this show, 17 photographers were challenged to
create exciting compositions that would either sympathize or resist the inherent
qualities of these formats. Ranging from landscape, still life, and
architectural subjects, this collection of fine arts photographs encourages the
viewer to examine the effect of containment and proportion on the artist’s
vision.
Participating photographers: Marilyn Baldi, Deirdre Beattie,
Pasquale Cirullo, Laury Egan, Jean Finnila, Lynda Griffith, Nancy Harrison,
Betul Hoscan, Nancy Klein, Peggy Leary, Joan Myers, Bruce Nelson, Jay Petersen,
Jim Powers, Jill Saari, Paul Staniforth, and John Tortora.
