This exhibit features artwork by the late Helena Breslin, a longtime resident of Red Bank, New Jersey. Comprised of pastels on paper, these works are from her series "Seeing the Stars in a Mystical Sense", an exploration of abstract form and color. Born in Killkelly Ireland, Helena's family came to the United States and settled in Red Bank in 1957 when she was 14. In 1977 she married Michael John Breslin, a writer and lifelong Red Bank resident. Finding expression through art later in life, she could often be found with her sketchbook, drawing inspiration from the landscapes around her, especially when traveling to her native Ireland. Working in a meditative, "automatic" style, her bright and vibrant works are hypnotic studies in pure shape, color and composition.
A special reception will be held on Sunday may 1, 2011 from 2-4pm.
