Fair Haven Man Charged In Red Bank Church Vandalism

A Fair Haven man knocked over a statue at a Broad Street church last month, resulting in over $6,000 worth of damage, according to police.

RED BANK, NJ – Red Bank police have located and charged a Fair Haven resident in connection with a report of vandalism at a church sanctuary last month.

Stephen Grosso of Fair Haven was charged via mail summons with criminal mischief, according to police. Grosso, 30, was skateboarding behind St. James Church on Broad Street on June 13 when the individual pushed over a religious depiction of the Holy Family. Video surveillance posted by Red Bank Green shows the Fair Haven resident knocking over the statue and skating away around 4 p.m. that afternoon. Watch the video below:

An investigation headed by Detective James DePonte, in conjunction with Rumson police, led to Grosso's charge.

According to Police Chief Darren McConnell, the incident caused over $6,000 in damages. On June 15, Grosso was arrested by Rumson police for criminal mischief and hindering apprehension near West River Road and Bellevue Avenue, according to the borough’s police blotter. The arrest resulted from numerous reports of broken mailboxes in the area.
