Five Ways to Ease Joint Pain in Winter

You often hear people say that they can predict the weather based on the pain in their joints. While researchers are still looking into why a change in season can increase joint pain, medical experts agree that it is a true ailment, particularly for arthritis sufferers. If you are one of those people, these tips might help:

1. Take supplements: Studies have shown that supplements such as fish oil, chondroitin, glucosamine sulfate and Vitamin D can help to relieve joint pain by nourishing cartilage and helping to lubricate joints. Be sure to check with your physician before taking any supplements.
2. Stay warm: Dressing in multiple layers and keeping your core warm can help to minimize joint pain. Warm showers and baths can also help to soothe aching joints.

3. Stay active: Maintaining an exercise program is important for keeping joints healthy. Low-impact aerobics such as walking on a treadmill, using an elliptical, or practicing yoga to help enhance range of motion are all great, as is incorporating weights to strengthen joint-supporting muscles.
