Green Brook Resident to Play Tulsa In Gypsy

Twenty-two year old Chris Lorenc will be playing a principal role in Phoenix Productions' upcoming September revival of Gypsy.

Twenty-two year old Chris Lorenc will be playing a principal role in Phoenix Productions’ upcoming September revival of Gypsy. This show will take place at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank for a two-weekend run beginning September 16th.

Chris is a well-known actor and member of the Green Brook community. He attended Somerville High School, where he discovered his passion for theatre. Chris graduated Fairleigh Dickinson University in May, where he was a Theatre major and Dance minor. He currently performs in community and regional theatres in New Jersey and New York City, while continuing his professional dance training.

In Gypsy, Chris plays Tulsa, a singing and dancing member of the “farm boys”-- charming, handsome, and endearing, Tulsa strives to break out and become a star. Chris has played a range of roles from Moritz in Spring Awakening to Georg in She Loves Me, but finds Tulsa in particular to be unique from many styles of musical theatre. “A lot of styles of shows that I’ve done haven’t been created when Gypsy was first produced/setting. Finding that“coroner/pantomine/heart-throb” performativity that Tulsa has was a great experience to go through. All Tulsa wants is the stardom he deserves by dancing, singing, and sweeping June off her feet.”

Referred to as the greatest American musical by many critics, Gypsy is the ultimate true story about an aggressive stage mother. Join Rose, June and Louise in their trip across the United States during the 1920’s, when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born. Jule Styne’s music and Stephen Sondheim’s lyrics include lots of unforgettable standards like “Everything’s Coming Up Roses”, “You Gotta Get a Gimmick”, “Together Wherever We Go,”and, of course, “Let Me Entertain You”.

Performances will be on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm, with its run concluding on September 25th. Tickets are available at the Count Basie Theatre Box Office and can be purchased in person at 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank, N.J, by phone at 732-842-9000, or online at www.countbasietheatre.org .
