Head-On Parking Required In Red Bank Under Proposed Ordinance
The addition comes in order to prevent vehicles from blocking new walkways that separate parking aisles in municipal parking lots.
RED BANK, NJ - A proposed amendment to the general ordinances of the borough of Red Bank states that vehicles must park into municipal lots head-on.
The borough council introduced the Oct. 14 amendment at a meeting earlier this month. The change is intended to clarify the definition of head-on parking and permit head-on parking only.
The addition comes in order to prevent vehicles from overhanging across the new walkways that separate parking aisles, borough Business Administrator Ziad Shehady told the blog Red Bank Green. He says the issue is particularly evident with large pickup trucks with large backends.

The amended portion of the “prohibited activities” section reads as follows:
“To park a vehicle in any municipal parking lot otherwise than by causing the vehicle to be parked head-on, with the front of the vehicle toward or facing the curb or the closed front end of the parking space.”

The new rule would apply to all municipal lots, although only the White Street lot has dedicated Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant walkways.
In other news, construction on White Street has nearly concluded. The White Street parking lot remains under construction while utility companies relocate their infrastructure, according to an Oct. 22 municipal notice.
A final vote on the change is scheduled for Oct. 28, according to the blog.
