Man Tased After Breaking Windows Of NJ Borough Hall, Officials Say

The incident occurred Friday night and caused "significant damage" to four of the front windows of Borough Hall, officials said.

RED BANK, NJ — A man was subdued with a taser after damaging multiple windows at Borough Hall on Friday night, Borough Manager James Gant said in an online statement.

At 9:11 p.m. on Friday, Gant said a man wielding a metal pipe about five feet in length caused "significant damage" to four front windows of Borough Hall, impacting the Finance Office area.

Following this incident, responding officers gave commands to the man, which Gant said were not followed.

The man was then subdued with a taser and taken into custody.

He was charged with criminal mischief, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and attempted escape from custody, Gant said.

Authorities have not released the identity of the man charged.

Borough crews responded immediately to secure the building following this incident, and repairs have since been underway.

Borough Hall operations are set to continue "as normally as possible" while work proceeds, authorities said.

"We are grateful for the quick and professional response of our Police Department and Department of Public Utilities staff," Gant said. "At this time, there is no threat to the public related to this incident."
