National NeighborWorks Week, Sponsored by the AHA In partnership with the Asbury Park Community and From Jersey With Love

Asbury Park, NJ – June 2018: The first week in June is NeighborWorks Week and working with the AHA, and other volunteers we will change the appearance of the West Side Community Center, 113 Dewitt Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ on June 8, 2018 starting at 9 AM to 3 PM. The West Side Community Center is currently in need of renovations and cleaning up. The Affordable Housing Alliance, as a chartered member of NeighborWorks of America, is taking action to clean up the area. As part of an annual event to bring attention to the importance of community development, organized volunteers and staff will be making an impact for this community through hard work and neighbors helping neighbors. There will be provisions such as lunch and entertainment. Joining the volunteer force again this NWA week is Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley. We are seeking at least 100 volunteers to help complete beautify and refurbish the center. Anyone wishing to volunteer or sponsor the event is requested to call 732-389-2958 and ask for Alex Tersy.
AHA is teaming up with From Jersey With Love in joining the volunteer team this year in a collaborative effort to help modify the center. They are a registered nonprofit agency currently, their foundation is housed at the West Side Community Center in Asbury Park, NJ. Their fiscal goal is to reintroduce much needed programming into the city of Asbury Park and Monmouth County utilizing the abundant space. From Jersey with Love will kick start their programming initiative Summer 2018 with Camp APAT, Asbury Production, Arts and Theater, a performing arts/recreational summer program targeting children ages 8-13. NeighborWorks week theme is called “Advanced Opportunity” as other chartered members across the nation sponsor similar events contributing thousands of volunteer hours to improving an area in their multitude of communities. After this day the West Side Community Center will be able to offer a safe outdoor play area for the camp participants, provide outdoor entertainment to the community and begin offering continual programming into the winter months. Previous events for NeighborWorks Week have included the debris clean up at Compton’s Creek in Port Monmouth, the demolition of Sandy damaged homes in Union Beach, the landscaping of a new senior residence in Millstone and the painting of the Emergency Shelter for Homeless Adults in Freehold. The Affordable Housing Alliance encourages other businesses and groups to join in a great bonding opportunity in making a difference for the community.
