New Jersey English Teacher Conference: Regroup

New Jersey Council of English Teachers offers an all-day conference for current and future Language Arts teachers. Highlights include workshops, keynotes by authors, breakfast and lunch, and free novels. It is a great opportunity to connect with language arts teachers from around the state. Seven PDF hours will be given to all attendees.

Keynote authors include Greg Takoudes, author and filmmaker whose award-winning feature film Up with Me inspired his first novel WHEN WE WUZ FAMOUS, will receive the Muriel Becker Literary Award. Author Kenan Trebincevic, author of the compelling memoir, The Bosnia List: A Memoir of War, Exile, and Return, will offer the opening keynote. David Lubar, author of dozens of hilarious books for teens, electronic game programmer (who programmed Super Breakout for the Nintendo Game Boy, and Frogger for both the SNES and Game Boy), will be a highlighted speaker.

Workshop topics include hiphop and poetry, social justice, newsroom nonfiction, censorship, help for remedial readers and more. The focus will be on teaching as a profession - not testing prep. The cost is $20 for students and $35 for teachers.

The conference, open to the public in the Student Center Ballrooms on the north end of the Monclair University campus, is sponsored by the New Jersey Council of Teachers of English, a non-profit 501(c)(3) professional organization dedicated to educational and beneficial purposes. NJCTE fosters excellence in English Language Arts by developing academic and professional expertise at all levels.
