NJ Supermarket To Close After 50 Years Serving Local Community: See Details

RED BANK, NJ — Following 50 years of service to the local community, Super Foodtown’s Red Bank location is set to close on Saturday, the company said in a statement sent to Patch.

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the Azzolina and Scaduto Families announce the closure of our Red Bank Super Foodtown on or about close of business May 23, 2026,” Lou Scaduto Jr., the president and CEO of Food Circus, and a representative of the Azzolina and Scaduto families, said.

In their closing statement, Scaduto cited “fierce” competition and a change in the supermarket landscape over the last decade as reasons that led to the closure.

Scaduto went on to say that their family-owned business “found it difficult to remain competitive among an emerging shift toward corporate and foreign-owned supermarket models.”

“Sadly, our 50-year legacy serving the greater Red Bank community will come to an end this month at our Red Bank location due to these market changes,” Scaduto said.

“We regret so deeply the impact of this decision on our valued team members who stood with us and sacrificed for these many years,” he continued. “With every decision and challenge we faced, our team members were at the forefront of our efforts.”

Though Super Foodtown’s Red Bank location will be closing on Saturday, Scaduto said their Atlantic Highlands and Sea Girt stores will remain open to serve those communities.

According to a report from RedBankGreen, the Atlantic Club will be moving its fitness club and spa to the Red Bank Super Foodtown location.

“Our gratitude is heartfelt to our team members and also our valued customers and vendors who remained loyal to us as we navigated the changing supermarket landscape,” Scaduto said. “It has been an honor to work with you, and we hope for only the best for you and your families.”

The closure announcement of Super Foodtown’s Red Bank location follows a statement from Scaduto about empty shelves at their Monmouth County stores earlier this month.

According to the statement, the chain was in a disagreement with its primary supplier of groceries.

“It is not our intent to operate this way, but our family-owned business is currently in a dispute with our primary grocery supplier that we are actively trying to work through,” Scaduto’s letter read.

According to a report from the Asbury Park Press, those issues have since been remedied regarding their Atlantic Highlands and Sea Girt stores, and Super Foodtown is “1,000% moving forward with those two locations.”

"Those two stores will have monumental deliveries rolling into them this weekend,” he told the Asbury Park Press.

Red Bank’s Super Foodtown is located at 362 Broad Street, Red Bank.
