NJSIAA Wrestling: Red Bank, RBC Wrestlers Prep For Districts

Individual tournament kicks off with districts next weekend

Red Bank Regional and Red Bank Catholic wrestlers have spent the last several days focusing the next phase of the NJSIAA wrestling championships -- the individual championships, which begin with the district tournaments this coming Friday and Saturday.

Red Bank Regional hosts the District 22 tournament, which includes teams from Red Bank Catholic, Christian Brothers Academy, Keansburg, Keyport, Long Branch, Middletown North, Middletown South, Ocean Township, Raritan and Rumson-Fair Haven. Winners at the district level will move to the Region VI tournament, which encompasses all Shore Conference teams, and from there wrestlers advance to the championships in Atlantic City.

RBC lost to St. John Vianney in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Non-Public A team tournament, 61-4, and wrestled Lacey and Monmouth Regional later in the week, falling to Lacey 52-21 and to Monmouth 37-21.  Ethan Byrne (120) and Andrew Sita (182) each won two bouts over the course of the three matches.

Red Bank wrestled in a quad meet at Keansburg and came away with victories over Keansburg, 45-25, and Pinelands, 51-26, but lost to Matawan, 38-33. Kenny Geiger (195) and Adel Soliman (126) each won all three of their bouts. each recording a pair of pins.
