RED BANK, NJ — This will be the last weekend for the Broadwalk, the pedestrian-friendly plaza created on Broad Street for the summer.

The last day is Sunday, Oct. 2, RiverCenter Executive Director Bob Zuckerman confirmed.

The Red Bank Borough Council in August extended the Broadwalk past Labor Day to continue through Oct. 2.

The Broadwalk opened on July 22, after a major road improvement project was completed.

"Although our summer started late because of the construction project, we brought lots of folks to downtown Red Bank as a result of the Broadwalk’s third season," Zuckerman said. RiverCenter is a nonprofit organization that develops business and tourism in the borough.

The pedestrian and dining plaza is bounded by Front Street to the north and White Street to the south.

The Broadwalk concept of a summer into fall pedestrian and dining plaza began in 2020 as a response to COVID dining restrictions.

But now the idea is seen as a way to attract more interest to this non-beach town's summer dining options and shopping.

"Aside from the great outdoor dining, we also programmed the Broadwalk this year with exercise classes, lots of activities for kids, live music and more," Zuckerman said.

"We are looking forward to bringing Broadwalk back in 2023 for Season Four," he added.
