RED BANK, NJ — Musicians will take to the porches of Red Bank on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at the first Porchfest in town.

There will be 22 porches, volunteered for the event by residents, featuring more than 70 bands throughout Red Bank, said one of the producers, Billy Portman.

Armed with a map available online or in printed form, the audience can follow the music presented on the town's many porches.

The event is billed as another way to bring the Red Bank community together.

"It’s all for community spirit and supporting local music," the event's organizers say.

Bring a lawn chair or a bicycle to relax and stay for a while in front of the venues, organizers suggest. This is an outdoor event so we encourage attendees to prepare for the weather accordingly. Wear walking shoes. Be safe when walking, bike riding or on a scooter when navigating about town, the event's Facebook page advises.

You can pick up a map of the event and band schedules the day of the event at The Dublin House, 30 Monmouth St. You can also find information on Facebook at Red Bank Porchfest, organizers say.

Porchfest would not have been possible without sponsors The Count Basie
Theatre, HABcore, John Jackson, “KEEP ON SNACKIN” ShopRite, Jazz Arts Project,
and Tom Bunge, Portman said.

Portman is co-producing the event with John Shepherd and Marta Quinn from HABcore.

HABcore, a nonprofit organization based in Red Bank, supports permanent housing services to homeless veterans, families and individuals with special needs in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
