Possible Roe v. Wade Reversal Inspires Red Bank Rally
In response to the leaked SCOTUS decision on Roe vs. Wade, Our Revolution Monmouth County is holding a demonstration in Red Bank.

RED BANK, NJ — Advocates plan to hold a "We Dissent – Rally for Abortion Rights" in Red Bank on Friday, May 6 in response to the United States Supreme Court considering overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that legalized abortion in all 50 states.
The Red Bank rally will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Riverside Gardens Park on West Front Street, organizers said. "We need to take to the streets," Our Revolution Monmouth County said.
Speakers include Red Bank Borough Councilwoman and Council President, Kate Triggiano, Reverend Craig Rubano of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, Lauren Nicosia a counselor at Planned Parenthood Central NJ and many more.

The rally is being held in reaction to a leaked, draft U.S. Supreme Court majority opinion, which indicates that the court may overturn Roe (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992). Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed Tuesday the opinion – first reported by Politico – is authentic.

U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone, who represents New Jersey's 6th district, called the possibility "an assault on women."
"Roe v. Wade has stood for nearly 50 years protecting the right to abortion," said Pallone Tuesday. "If this draft opinion is accurate, the Supreme Court is on the cusp of overturning half a century of precedent and decimating reproductive rights for millions of Americans. This is an assault on women and their ability to make their own healthcare decisions and undermines the right to privacy for all Americans."
"It is an ideological decision not based in the Constitution that will further undermine trust in the Supreme Court and cause devastating harm to our people and our nation," continued Pallone.

If Roe v. Wade is overturned, women in New Jersey will still be able to obtain abortions. Gov. Murphy helped pass the Reproductive Freedom Act in October 2020, which largely secured abortion access in New Jersey.
