RBC Defeats Freehold Boro 61-39 in Boys Basketball

Chris Seaman scored a game high of 28 points to pace the Red Bank Catholic Caseys to a 61-39 victory over the Freehold Boro Colonials in a boys varsity basketball game Thursday night in Red Bank.

Seaman had three 3-pointers in the game in which the Caseys dominated the Colonials.

The Caseys got off to a fast start, leading the Colonials 15-9 with 1:39 left in the first quarter. RBC Senior Andrew Casten tossed in a 3-pointer with just 39 seconds left in the first quarter. Casten had a game high of 19 points.

The Caseys lead at the end of the first quarter was 18-11.

The second quarter opened with Seaman pumping in a 3-pointer and the Caseys lead was 21-13.

Casten made a layup and the Caseys lead increased to 26-13. Freehold Boro made a layup in an attempt to close the gap.

The second quarter ended with the Casey's leading at 35-24.

RBC's Zack Gwydir tipped the ball to teammate Oriolo who passed the ball to Mike Calandrillo, who scored a basket. RBC's  lead increased to 39-28 with 5:30 left in the quarter.

With 22 seconds left in the quarter, Seaman scored a basket and the quarter ended with the Caseys leading 53-34.

The Fourth quarter opened with RBC getting the ball, and in a stall, passed the ball back and forth for 3:00 before taking a shot but the ball missed the basket..

Freehold fouled Casten, who made both foul attempts. The Caseys  had a 20 point lead at 57-37.

With 1:39 left in the game, Calandrillo scored and the lead was 59-39. RBC's Ryan Grover scored the final basket and the game ended with the Caseys winning 61-39.

"They (RBC) played very good defense, and we did the things we wanted to execute tonight," Head Coach Devitt Gillroy said. "Freehold is a very good transition team, and we wanted to prevent easy buckets."

Asked about the stall at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Gillroy said the team "was just being patient for the best shot at the basket."

The Caseys are now 13-2 overall while Freehold slipped to 9-9 on the season
