Red Bank Catholic Choir to Perform at Carnegie Hall

The Red Bank Catholic Choir has been invited to perform again at Carnegie Hall this holiday season.

The Red Bank Catholic Choir has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall again this holiday season. Last November, the choir performed on the Stern Auditorium Perelman Stage during the world premiere of composer Phil Barfoot’s “The Song of Christmas.” The RBC Choir was the only high school choral group invited to participate. Mr. Barfoot has been nominated for the prestigious Dove Award for the music recorded at last year’s performance. This year the Red Bank Catholic Choir will be singing on Mr. Barfoot’s “The Heart of Christmas.”

The RBC Choir will again be performing as part of the “American Festival Choir,” a group of renowned adult choirs from throughout the country. The Red Bank Catholic choir, comprised of approximately 50 students of all grade levels, is directed by RBC Music Director Shawn Mack, a 2005 RBC graduate. Mr. Mack, who had previously performed at Carnegie Hall himself, understands the students’ excitement: “It was quite an honor to be asked to perform at Carnegie Hall and in concert with such talented people. I know this is an experience our students will never forget.”

The Red Bank Catholic community did not miss out on the big event last year. A group of almost 400 RBC friends, family members, faculty and staff attended the special performance. For most, the evening began at RBC where they all gathered to board chartered buses and enjoy the ride into Manhattan together, which included a boxed catered meal for the ride. As RBC Principal Robert Abatemarco noted, “It was the perfect way to start the Christmas season. To share the excitement of this special evening with our parents, teachers, Sisters of Mercy, alumni and friends was truly a testimony to what it means to be part of the Red Bank Catholic family. “
