RED BANK, NJ - Following a successful run as a mom-and-pop jeweler since 1972, the owners of Quicksilver Handcrafted Jewelry on White Street have announced their decision to shutter the store permanently.

“After 49 years in business we have decided to retire,” owners Vance and Margaret Valente wrote on Facebook last week. “We want to thank you, our valued customers for your support throughout the years. We’d also like to thank our employees whose dedication and hard work contributed to our success!”

The retirement comes amid the sale of the entire building in which Quicksilver is situated. Other tenants include Rook Coffee, Cabana 19 and Hair & Co.

According to Red Bank Green, the building has been bought by Angie Courtney, who manages several Red Bank storefronts: Sweetest Sin, Chelsea Morning Salon, Semolina Restaurant and Red Bank Chocolate Shoppe. The publication reports that the jewelry shop’s closure is not a consequence of the pandemic, but rather a personal decision to retire after nearly five decades in business.

In the social media statement, the Valentes also thanked their children, “who were a big part of this family business.”
