Red Bank Regional Grad Weir Earns College Soccer Honor

Rachel Weir, a freshman at Penn State Brandywine, was Offensive Player of the Week in the Penn State Athletic Conference.

Red Bank Regional graduate Rachel Weir, a member of the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team, earned the Penn State University Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Award on Tuesday, the conference announced.

Weir, a freshman who hails from Neptune City, tallied three points with a goal and an assist in the team's season-opening 3-0 win over Immaculata on Sept. 1.

Brandywine led 1-0 in the 39th minute when Weir sent a crossing pass to Ami Iannello, who tapped the ball into an open net, doubling the Lions' lead.

Then, with just 12 seconds remaining before halftime, Weir punched in her first collegiate goal off a feed from Brianna Banks to give Brandywine a 3-0 edge.

Weir was a Shore Conference All-Division B North selection during her senior season with the Bucs and was a co-captain on her travel soccer team, the Rebels.
