Shrewsbury Volunteer First Aid Squad Announces 2020 Award Winners
The volunteer team recently honored four young residents for their positive contributions in the community.
SHREWSBURY, NJ - Several young residents were recently recognized by the Shrewsbury Volunteer First Aid Squad for their positive contributions to the community.
Four locals were awarded with accolades and monetary prizes for their efforts:
Graduating eighth grader Jillian Doody of the Shrewsbury Boro School was with provided $250 as part of the annual Thomas & Betty Clark Memorial Award for Health Studies. The honor is presented to a graduating eighth grader who has demonstrated significant involvement in health-related activities.

The squad also presented a $500 check to Sydney Kodama, a Red Bank Regional High School senior from Shrewsbury. Kodama’s award is in memory of Thomas P. Maletto and recognizes outstanding individuals pursuing volunteer activities in the community.
Applicants for this award submit an essay highlighting their activities, with each entry reviewed by a squad committee.

In 2020, the squad recognized two of its younger members who have demonstrated an interest in higher education. Two checks for $1,000 were provided to squad members Sean McCabe and Matthew Samaha to be used towards tuition.
McCabe will be attending Virginia Tech and Samaha will be attending Stockton University.
