The Community YMCA has received 56 new basketballs, thanks to a donation from NBA Cares, DICK’s Sporting Goods and Spalding®. The donation provides new basketballs to youth who participate in programs at the Family Health and Wellness Center in Red Bank, and two day camps – Camp Arrowhead in Marlboro and Camp Zehnder in Wall. The Y’s programs encourage kids to be physically active, develop skills and learn sportsmanship.
“The Community YMCA is thrilled to have been selected to receive this generous donation from NBA Cares and its partners,” said Y President and CEO Rhonda Anderson. “With today’s issue of childhood obesity and the impact it has on health, the Y will be using these donated balls to help keep kids active and teaching them the importance of staying healthy through physical activity,” she added.
More than 50 children are developing basketball skills in programs at the Y’s Family Health and Wellness Center in Red Bank and over 1,00 attend Y summer camps.
The Y has been a longtime national charity partner of NBA Cares because of the organizations’ shared commitment of encouraging individuals to live healthy lifestyles. The NBA and NBA Cares support YMCAs across the country through partnerships with local league teams, court refurbishments of local YMCA gyms, player visits to camps and youth sports team events.
