The Y’s Free Healthy Kids Membership Expands to Pre-K

The Y is here to nurture the development of all kids.  One way we show our commitment to improving the health and well-being of children is through our Healthy Kids membership.  This initiative gives all Red Bank youth a special free membership and access to family activities at our Family Health and Wellness Center, located at 166 Maple Avenue, in Red Bank.

Now we have expanded our program to include pre-K students in Red Bank schools, providing opportunities for children to stay active and develop healthy habits by spending time at the Y.  This marks the 4th year that we've offered this no-cost membership to all Red Bank schoolchildren up to 8th grade.

Last year, over 250 kids from grades K-8 participated in the program, which includes open family gym and pool times, family dinner and movie nights, special blocks of fun activities, and supervised recreation. A variety of children’s classes are also available at a special member price.

“We have had much success with the Healthy Kids Membership for the last four years,” said Rhonda Anderson, The Community YMCA President and CEO.  “Expanding the program to include pre-k is a natural progression, one that I’m sure will help a lot of families feel confident that their children are in a safe place where they can learn, grow and thrive,” she added.

To sign up for the Healthy Kids membership, families may stop by the Y anytime with a copy of their child’s report card, progress report or placement letter.  Parents must also bring their driver’s license or a bill to serve as proof of address.

One mother, Red Bank resident Jane Kleiman has a 12 year-old and 5 year-old who participate in the program.  “Having the Healthy Kids membership has been a huge help to my family,” Ms. Kleiman said, adding “my son needs the fitness program and swims once a week.  It’s been a great financial advantage.”

The free youth membership is made possible by generous donors, who support the Y’s mission to serve all, regardless of age, income or background.
