Tower Hill Students Give Back
Pajamas and Books for Christmas, Turkeys and Trimmings for Thanksgiving

Red Bank, NJ, December 18, 2017 – This fall, Tower Hill School participated in several community outreach projects around Thanksgiving and Christmas that supported the local Red Bank community and allowed the children to be actively involved in giving back during the holiday season.
In November, Tower Hill School families donated 13 turkeys and 33 bags of trimmings – included stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, sweet potatoes, pie filling and crust – to Lunch Break and Aslan Youth Services as well as to many other local churches and food pantries. To engage the children, each donation was accompanied by a “Thankful Turkey” – a list of what the family’s children were thankful for this year. This collection was part of a larger effort by Tower Hill Church to provide 500 turkeys and 500 bags of trimmings to local families in need.
In December, Tower Hill School collected both new pajamas and new books for children in need. The school collected 76 pairs of new pajamas that were donated to the Pajama Program in Red Bank. Additionally, 69 books were collected, which were donated to Lunch Break’s Holiday Toy Program, an annual event hosted by Tower Hill Church. During the event, Webster Hall at Tower Hill Church was turned into a shopping center where parents could choose presents, books, school supplies, and stocking stuffers for their children.

Families of students agree that these drives are a wonderful addition to their annual holiday traditions, and an easy way to actively involve their children charity.
“This food drive is a wonderful opportunity to teach our children about empathy and the spirit of giving. My son was excited to shop for the items in the trimmings bag because he knew he was helping feed a family. The thankful turkey craft allowed my son to reflect and appreciate what he has in his life. With the rush of the holiday season, it’s important to keep ourselves and our children grounded,” said Mary Preiser, co-chair of Tower Hill School’s Community Outreach Committee.
